EU launches Win2K antitrust probe
European Union officials are investigating whether Windows 2000 will thwart competition by giving Microsoft an unfair advantage in the European operating system market.
The probe was triggered by complaints the EU received from consumers, small businesses and Microsoft rivals.
One of the complaints stems from a French software wholesaler, which claimed in 1996 that Microsoft used its dominant market position to prevent the distributo from importing Microsoft products into Europe. www.news.com .
