EMI releases first DRM-free album on iTunes

by - source: Tom's Hardware

London (UK) - Two days after announcing that it would offer music downloads without copy protection technology, EMI said the album The Good, The Bad & the Queen from Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong is scheduled to become available on iTunes today.

While the DRM-free tracks were not yet available on iTunes at the time of this writing, EMI said that the album as well as one individually offered track, Green Fields, are the first titles of EMI’s catalogue to be available without copy protection.

The titles will be MP3 files encoded in 256 kpbs, which EMI claims is enough to make the audio quality "indistinguishable from the original recording." The single track will be priced at €0.99 ; pricing of the complete album has not been announced.
