EMI and MP3.com deal

Napster may be out of the running but MP3.com is settling with EMI and may be paving the way for leadership in the online music business. Reportedly, MP3 will pay EMI $20 million in damages and royalty fees whenever users register EMI CDs or access a song file. Important cases, however, are still pending against MP3 by Sony Music Entertainmnet and Seagram Univeral Music Group. Other Napster fallout continues as music download site Cutemx restricts access until further notice.
