While I'm not sure whether a brighter monitor is really better for those of us who have to stare at one of the things all day, Eizo Nanao Technologies is being pro-luminescent with its new FlexScan T565 17" CRT. The 300 Candela aperture grill monitor has various fine contrast modes, which Eizo says will help you to see precise color-balanced images. Eizo's T565 supports the the sRGB color standard which is supposed to make the colors you see in your web browser more accurate without the need for color profiling software. Eizo says the proposed sRGB standard is intended to be built into monitors, printers, and the Internet, to keep colors consistent from device to device. I've honestly never heard of the sRGB standard, but if you're looking for a monitor that supports it, here it is. The T565 is priced at $499.
