ECS acquires ultra-portable whitebook manufacturer
Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), mainly knows as a motherboard manufacturer in the U.S., today said that it will acquire Uniwill Computer, Taiwan’s leading manufacturer of ultra-portable notebook (whitebook) solutions. Uniwill is ECS’ second major addition in 2006 : ECS announced the acquisition of Tatung’s desktop PC unit earlier this year.
According to ECS, Uniwill sol about 1.8 million notebooks in 2005.
ECS issue 184,930,000 new shares at a share price of NT$19.05 (totaling about US$107 million) to complete the deal.
