Comics Preview: Early Look at Gunslinger #3, Moon Knight #9 :
An Early Look

Cover of "Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born" #3 by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove
I'm a big fan of The Dark Tower book series, but as I read more and more of THE GUNLSLINGER BORN, I'm beginning to feel a lot of déjà vu. From the look of these issue #3 pages that may not change soon. It appears that we're still in Wizard and Glass territory here, which makes me wonder when we're going to see the new stuff that was promised. So far the comic has been a retread of events I already read through in the books and some brief "deleted scenes". I'm still enjoying it, but I wish they would explore some areas of the mythology that were not covered in King's books.
Here's the Marvel press release on DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN #3, and check out the gallery to see the pages.
"The first chapter of Stephen King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower, arrived last month in graphic fiction form from Marvel Comics to great response across the country. Despite an incredibly healthy overprint, the demand for this issue has been greater than anticipated and the issue has sold out. But fear not, King fans, Marvel is pleased to announce that we will be going back to press on the first issue, with a brand new cover by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada."
"Following the adventures of young Roland, Stephen King's DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN continues to win over fans both new and old. Issue #3 of the series will be in stores on April 4th."

Cover of "Moon Knight" #9 by David Finch
I've been enjoying the new MOON KNIGHT quite a bit since the first issue, but a great deal of that enjoyment stems from David Finch's art. He reminds of Todd McFarlane a little bit back when McFarlane was drawing instead of running a media empire (no doubt from a horrifying throne constructed from skin and bone). It's disappointing to hear they're bringing on a new artist, but I'll give Mico Suayan a chance. The writing by novelist Charlie Huston is hit and miss, but much of the "miss" may just be Huston trying to find his feet transitioning from books to comics. The writing style varies greatly between the two. Huston takes Marc Spector's insanity to new levels. I loved the bit in the last issue where Spector's imaginary friend tries to convince him to kill Captain America during a stern lecture. Huston mixes noir drama with dark humor, and Finch's pencils make Moon Knight look cooler than I've ever seen him. Unfortunately, I have no idea what is going on in issue #9 from these preview pages, aside from some jocks getting owned in a weight room.
Here's Marvel's press release on MOON KNIGHT #9, and you'll find these pages in the gallery as well:
"In MOON KNIGHT #9, writer Charlie Huston continues the story of Marc Spector returning to his life as the costumed avatar Moon Knight as he welcomes aboard artist Mico Suayan. Suayan joins the title just in time for the Punisher to drop by and Moon Knight's mysterious foe to finally reveal himself as "Midnight Sun" continues."
"MOON KNIGHT has proved to be one of Marvels hottest new series. MOON KNIGHT #8 has sold out at Diamond and with issue #9 welcoming the stunning art of Mico Suayan, it seems the series won't cool down one bit."
"In MOON KNIGHT #9 Huston and Suayan continue "Midnight Sun" with "Part 3: For the Occasion" as Moon Knight is about to come face to face with a ghost from his past. But is he prepared for that meeting? The adversary that has taunted and baited Moon Knight is finally ready to take his adversary head-on. Armed with intimate knowledge of Marc Spector's moves as well as the psychological edge, Moon Knight will face the fight of his life. And that's not even including his confrontation with the Punisher!"
