Redwood City (CA) - Electronic Arts has presented a mixed bag of results for its fiscal Q4 2007 and the total 2007 fiscal year. While the company had seven blockbuster game titles that sold more than three million copies each, revenues declined in Q4 and profits turned into losses.
EA's biggest hits for the year ended March 31, 2007 were Madden NFL 07, Need for Speed Carbon, FIFA 07, The Sims 2 Pets, The Sims 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted and 2006 FIFA World Cup. Especially the franchise "The Sims" was selling like hotcakes: A total of more than 22 million copies were sold; "The Sims 2 Pets" (5.6 million copies) and The Sims 2 (3.9 million copies) came up as the most successful versions during FY2007. EA's most successful game of the year was Madden NFL 07, which exchanged hands 8.5 million times.
On the financial side, EA's annual revenue improved to $3.1 billion, up 5% from the prior year (3.0 billion). Net income for the year was $76 million as compared with $236 million for FY2006. Revenues and earnings tumbled in FQ4, when sales dropped 4% to $613 million year-over-year and the company ended up with a loss of $25 million. In fiscal Q4 2006, the company reported a profit of 16 million. According to EA, the revenue decline was "due to the transition to next generation systems."
