DVD-RAM/R drives by both LaCie and Panasonic record DVDs playable in standard DVD players as well as providing high-capacity storage in both internal and external drive versions. Though the drives address some recordable DVD format issues by combining DVD-RAM rewriteability with DVD-R compatibility, competitive DVD+RW and DVD-RW formats will reportedly produce rewriteable DVDs playable in home players.
