DV Expo is primarily a video equipment show, but there were many other products besides video gear on display. Software companies, for example, showed off eye-catching software that produced waving flags, cool titles or great chroma key movies. There were external hard drives of many shapes and sizes. And we didn't completely ignore other high-end video cameras we found, either.

LaCie

Would you buy an external drive designed by F.A. Porsche? Apparently, LaCie thinks so, which had plenty of Porsche-designed desktop and mobile hard drive enclosures on display. The desktop drives have a capacity of up to 250 GB, while the smaller mobile drives can store up to 100 GB. Both versions have USB or FireWire connections.

The LaCie Desk Rack lets you neatly stack up to four of its external drives. There is space at the bottom for CDs, if you stack three or less drives. The rack retails for $49.

I like LaCie's simple naming scheme for its hard drives. The Bigger Disk Extreme is big and extreme. With 1.6 TeraBytes of storage in a Raid-0 configuration, this drive is great for storing video files or your bloated Microsoft Word documents.

The Bigger Disk Extreme has a FireWire 800 interface. It is 5.25 inches and 2U high, which is small enough to fit on your desk. The chassis with the included four drives weighs just over 11 lbs.

The LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme retails for $2,199.
