Duke Nukem Forever Development Still Ongoing

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Plus there was an unannounced Duke Nukem game in the works!

Despite the closure of 3D Realms, it seems that Duke isn’t dead. Shacknews spotted in countersuit documents filed by the developer, work on Duke Nukem Forever continues despite the business side of the game being a complete mess.

"[3D Realms/Apogee Ltd.] admits that it has continually worked on the development of the DNF for many years, and continues to do so," reads a clause in the document.

It was reported that former 3D Realms staff had shopped the game around to various publishers and developers, though none have yet picked up the title.

Interestingly, there was also another Duke Nukem game in development, but wasn’t yet announced, titled Duke Begins. Take-Two was set to publish Duke Begins, which was worked on by a third-party developer, sometime in the middle of 2010.

Development of Duke Begins was supposedly halted when 3D Realms experienced a change in funding, which eventually lead to the closure of the developer.

Check out the full story at Shacknews or read the court filing at Game Politics.

It will get here and bill filled to the brime with SecuROM and other such programs. So I'll have to give it a miss.

On the other hand by then I'll have a PS9 and GTA-12 so I'll be playing that.

If they had released the Original on Xbox Live / PSN etc... then:
A] People youger than 60 could have seen what all the fuss was about.
B] The money generated from this could have gone towards developing DNF.

What will be fun is to read the full tortured story of the developement in 10 or so years when the creators get interviewed about it.

This will be the first game that over the course of its development, all of its original developers will die of old age and the work will be eventually finished by their grandchildren.
