3DR: Duke Nukem to Have 'Strong Resurgence'

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Duke isn't dead.

Another year is nearly over, and still no Duke Nukem Forever. Of course, the difference between now and this time last year is that we have a much better idea of just what’s going on with the internal development of DNF – and right now, it's not a whole lot. But that doesn't mean that Duke won't be passed around to different platforms and games!

According to Shacknews, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller said in an interview with new game magazine Gamesauce, "The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke… There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production."

Aside from investments from Take-Two Interactive, 3D Realms was very fortunate to have a constant stream of cash in order to fuel its dry output.

Miller explains how 3D Realms supported itself: "Duke Nukem 3D was made for $300,000, and we made back 25 times our investment--not to mention all of the third-party Duke console games that sold well. Plus, we made a killing with Wolfenstein 3D. And we made the biggest killing on Max Payne! We made $30 million in royalties on that game (off of a $2.5 million investment), plus another $48 million selling the IP to our publisher. Oh, and we were also part owners of Gathering of Developers when that was sold to Take2. And finally, we have been pretty lucky with other investments, both in the stock market and in other studios."

For you Duke fans, there is still hope of playing more of your old PC hero from your childhood! I mean, if you're still into that whole thing.

Biggest dissapointment of the coming decade I'd guess, will probably still buy it though, even if it's crap it'll be worth it just to say "I KNEW THIS WOULD FUCKING HAPPEN".

Who really cares anymore..

This game has been based on nothing but lies and complete and utter anticipation of what was not to come..

I hope that Duke Nukem WHATEVER never sees the light of day and anyone who ever was in control of this project get stranded on a desert island with nothing more than cow manure which they have been feeding the rest of the world with over the last 10 odd years.

Farcry - how many years ago was that should of been called duke nukem anyway as thats what it should of been like 5 odd years ago.
