DoS attack hits Network Associates

Wednesday night, someone anonymously posted counterfeit code to the Bugtraq security list that was effectively disguised as a script that would exploit a security flaw discovered in the BIND Web addressing program. When compiled and run by as many as 20,000 people, the Trojan code actually mounted a denial of service attack on the network security firm Network Associates, where the BIND hole was discovered. Network Associates had, in fact, fixed the bug and was therefore not knocked off the Web. Access was limited, though, for a ninety-minute period due to the massive number of requests sent to the site.
