DoCoMo, Sony to Form JV for Smart-Card Chip
NTT DoCoMo Inc and Sony Corp will tie up to develop smart-card chips that will allow consumers to use their cell phones to pay for purchases, Sony and DoCoMo sources said on Wednesday. "DoCoMo, Japan’s biggest mobile phone operator with 45 million subscribers, and Sony, the world’s largest consumer electronics maker, will soon form a joint venture in which Sony will take more than a 50 percent stake, DoCoMo and Sony sources said."
