Do ID codes exist in all .25 micron Intel chips?

by - source: Tom's Hardware

An architect who currently works for Intel reportedly has confirmed that all .25 micron Intel chips have the processor serial number (PSN), according to The Register web site.

The chip designer, who asked for anyonymity, says that all .25 micron cores - including the PII, all Celerons and all current Xeons - have had serialization ever since .25 micron technology started. The only exception is the .25 micron Tillamook P5 MMX, he said.

Intel officials told The Register that a prototype of the PSN circuitry has been present in some PII and Celeron parts, "purely for validation and testing purposes."
