Diamond preps 1 GB Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card
Chatsworth (CA) - Diamond Multimedia will begin offering a Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card that offers twice the GDDR4 memory of standard 2900 XT cards on June 14.
The new card, the first single GPU desktop graphics card with 1 GB of memory, is expected to be available through and various enthusiast and boutique PC builders such as Falcon Nothwest, Biohazard, Vigor, Velocity Micro and ibuypower. Pricing has not been announced, but should be significantly above the current street price of a regular 2900 XT, which currently hovers in the $450 to $500 range.
The first widely available desktop graphics card to offer 1 GB of memory was Nvidia’s GeForce 7950 GX2, which however integrates two graphics processors. Nvidia 8-series-based graphics cards currently top out at 768 MB of memory.
