DFI Goes Back Into the Graphics Biz

Since 1997, DFI has been positioning itself as a specialized motherboard manufacturer, but before that time, the company had a more diverse line of products that included graphics cards. We just got word from the company that, at least to a certain extent, DFI is getting back to its roots and reentering the graphics card business with new offerings based on ATI's chipsets. If you remember, back in May ATI announced that it would be entering into deals with companies to let them make boards based on ATI technology. The document that we received from DFI says that the company based its decision on the expectation that the P4 will become a mainstream product this year, which should stimulate the market for high-end graphic cards. DFI will market the products under its own brand names worldwide, and is expected to introduce a graphic card based on the Radeon VE chipsets coupled with SDRAM and DDR memory this month. The DFI Radeon 10 will have 32MB SDRAM and offer a 166MHz clock rate. The DDR-based DFI Radeon 15 will also have 32 MB of memory, a clock rate of 183 MHz, and a bandwidth of 2.9 GB/s. Both cards will include a two-year warrantee.
