Dell Launches Axim PDA
LAS VEGAS - As expected, Dell Computer launched its Axim PDA brand at Comdex this morning.
Dell's first model is the X5, based upon the Microsoft PocketPC software. Two models, priced at $299 and $199, are aimed squarely at low-cost offerings from rivals using the Palm operating system.
"We really want to the provide the best products we can at the best prices with the renowned service of the Dell line," said Anthony Bonadero, director of worldwide mobile products for Dell.
The $299 Axim X5 uses a 400-MHz Xscale processor and 64-MBytes of memory, plus 48 MBytes of flash ROM. The $199 model uses a 300-MHz processor 48 MBytes of SDRAM, and 32 MBytes of flash ROM. While the $299 model includes a charging cradle, the $199 model merely includes a USB synchronization cable.
