Austin (TX) - Dell, long known for their Intel-powered laptops, is now selling laptops with AMD chips inside. The new Inspiron 1501 line of laptops will have either AMD Turion 64 or the less powerful Mobile AMD Sempron processors. An integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics chip will power the laptop's 15.4" screen.

As is typical with Dell, you can configure each laptop in countless ways. Four processor models will be offered. On the low-end, buyers can choose the AMD Sempron 3500+ running at 1.8 GHZ. Single and dual-core Turion 64s make up the other three processor models. The high-end processor is the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 running at 1.8 GHz and contains 1 MB of cache.

The laptops start at $549, but a a fully-loaded Inspiron 1501 with the dual-core Turion X2 processor will run you a little more than $1700. Even though you can configure the laptops on Dell's webpage, you will still need to wait until the end of November for the laptops to ship.
