Dell #1 PC maker
Dell Computer Corp., selling directly to consumers, has taken the top spot among the world's computer makers according to numbers from Gartner Dataquest and International Data Corp. The new ranking ends Compaq Computer Corp.'s seven-year bragging rights. Dell's Q1 shipments increased by 34.3 percent to 4.16 million - 12.8 percent of the global PC market.
