DDR biz making final compatibility fixes

According to a story by EBN, server manufacturers use six- to eight-layer boards that provide tolerance to the slight timing differences in different manufacturers' DDR SDRAM. Though the server sector was first to exploit DDR memory, manufacturers usually rely on a single vendor for DIMMS and have few timing problems. OEMs in the desktop PC sector, however, must see that customers are able to add or mix memory without worrying about interoperability issues. Right now, the DDR industry is in the last phase of sorting out the differences that would prevent module compatibility and slow the adoption of the memory technology.
