Cypress Shows off USB On-the-Go Reference Design
If you can remember way back to September (and I'm surprised that I can remember tech news from that month), we told you about the USB On-the-Go specification, a supplement to the USB 2.0 spec that includes letting designers put a small USB connector on gadgets like MP3 players and cameras so that they can be connected to each other for things like transferring music files or connecting directly to a printer. It could also allow PDAs to be connected to cell phones to enable mobile Internet access. USB OTG seems to be on the go this week since Cypress Semiconductor just let us know about its USB embedded host/peripheral controller reference design that implements the supplement. Cypress's SL811HR_OTG prototype board combines an embedded USB Host/Peripheral controller (SL811HS) and SL11R microcontroller. The reference design includes schematic diagrams, design documentation, samples of the SL811HS and SL11R devices, firmware, an assembler, a compiler, and technical support. If you're looking for more information on the design so that you can build your own USB OTG device, you can pick up an application note on Cypress' website .
