Crypto export restrictions eased
Starting next week, the Clinton administration will allow US companies to export software utilizing strong encryption to members of the European Union as well as Australia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Poland and Switzerland. Encryption providers welcomed the changes but, as non-US firms can already sell similar products to anybody who wants them, many believe remaining restrictions and reporting requirements are excessive and unnecessary.
