Crypto com claims SSL breakthrough
Andes Networks Inc. has debuted a new encryption-processing scheme it believes will improve performance over competing Web security technologies by a factor of ten. The company announced at the RSA Conference 2001 that it is sampling an SSL accelerator box that would dramatically speed the coding and decoding process.
Reportedly, Andes' box performs 15,000 RSA operations per second compared to current systems perform up 1,500. The system will also support up to 5,000 new SSL client handshakes per second, over the current 750 standard. If the company's cost and performance estimates are accurate, it could enable the encryption of all public Internet traffic within a few years.
