Creative loses patent infringement case

by - source: Tom's Hardware

A U.S. jury has rejected Creative Technology's claim that Aureal's Vortex sound processor chip violated Creative intellectual property.

The lawsuit was launched back in February 1998, when Creative charged Vortex with infringing on one of its patents for a "digital sampling instrument employing cache memory." The patent had been assigned to its subsidiary Emu Systems.

Aureal counter-claimed that Creative only launched the case to impede its business - the original suit was issued a day after Aureal announced a Dell design win.

Creative has already said it will appeal the jury's decision.
