Cray's last computer due Nov.

Seymour Cray, perhaps the foremost pioneer of supercomputing, died four years ago at age 71 from injuries suffered in a car accident. His company, SRC Computers, is due however to reveal a new supercomputer based on a design that Cray was working on before he died.

The SRC-6 links to 512 Intel Pentium chips with shared memory using reconfigurable field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) that allow quick configuration. A prototype has been in operation at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for a year and a half, and commercial versions with 32 processors, starting at about $1 million, are scheduled to ship next year.
