Cray, NEC end feud
Cray Inc.'s decade-long legal feud with NEC Corp. has ended in partnership. Cray's accusation of dumping, or selling below cost, in the US market resulted in a 454 percent duty imposed upon NEC vector supercomputers in 1997, stopping NEC imports to the US. The new agreement calls for Cray to withdraw its case against NEC and sell $25 million in non-voting Cray preferred shares to the Japanese company. Cray will also have exclusive North American distribution rights for NEC's high-end vector supercomputers.
