At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2005) memory specialist Corsair lifted their NDA to show off their new "Xpert" memory line. It is their fifth memory line, along with the XMS/XMS2 series, the Value Select DIMMs, their server memory and some notebook DIMMs released last year. The Xpert series targets case modders and customers who are looking for distinctive components, and will be available within the next few weeks.

The modules incorporate additional logic that monitors operating parameters such as the chip voltage or temperature. Also, Corsair added a special interface to the modules, allowing a display module to be connected. The display reads information from the module and shows it using a total of ten LED digits.

Initially, Corsair is going to offer only 512 MB DDR400 DIMMs. It's almost unnecessary to mention that the memory specialist went for ideal timings of CL 2.0-2-2-5, which is standard fare for enthusiast memory today.

The Xpert DIMMs look pretty much like their XMS brothers, equipped with LEDs that light up depending on the level of memory activity. The main difference is that these LEDs had to give way to the display connector.
