Coppermine delays push PC makers to Athlon
Fujitsu-Siemens and Compaq plan to release PCs with AMD Athlon processors for the holiday shopping season, according to The Register.
The news follows reports from The Register earlier this month that Fujitsu-Siemens had to re-adjust its holiday schedules because it was unable to obtain enough fast Coppermines from Intel.
Both Fujitsu-Siemens and Compaq reportedly plan to utilize a 600Mhz Athlon chip. Compaq's machine will also include an FIC or an Asus motherboard and 64MB of memory.
Other leading PC makers, including IBM, Dell, Compaq and Hewlett Packard and Toshiba, are said to be angry over delays in receiving supplies of Coppermine .18 micron processors from Intel.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker admitted the day after the Coppermine's launch at the end of October that supplies of the processors "would be tight" during the fourth quarter of this year.
