Congressional leaders oppose Carnivore
Recent confirmation that the number of warrants served on U.S. ISPs is skyrocketing has contributed to Congressional opposition to the FBI's Carnivore e-mail surveillance system. House leaders have asked Attorney General Janet Reno to shut down Carnivore. Majority leader Richard Armey wrote in a letter signed by 28 House members, "People should feel secure that the federal government is not reading their e-mail, no matter how worthy the objective."
