Computex: IBM's 2Gb Fibre Channel
IBM is now showing off its new 2Gb Fibre Channel technology as well as Mylex's (an IBM subsidiary) line of RAID controllers at Computex. IBM's ProFibre Storage Array DF4000J is the first in a series of 2-Gigabit (Gb) Fibre Channel subsystems, a low profile, high-density 2Gb enclosure that The Boys from Armonk say offers 50 percent more capacity and double the bandwidth of the 1Gb model. The AcceleRAID 170LP, also being trotted out at Computex, is a low-profile RAID controller for high-density rack-mounted servers. The ProFibre DF4000J will begin shipping in volume to server and storage OEMs in Q3 and the AcceleRAID 170LP is shipping now.
