Gigabyte

Gigabyte was also showing off some pretty nice products. The first is a 14" widesceen Centrino notebook called the W412. It comes in at a light 5 lb (2.3 kg) and with acceptable dimensions, and features NVIDIA's GeForce Go 6600, Gigabit Ethernet and an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam.
Enthusiasts will be screaming for joy about Gigabyte's new RAM disk project. The GC-Ramdisk is plugged into a PCI slot to get power, and hooks up to your system via USB. Once connected, it behaves just like any other hard drive; a backup battery avoids data loss when you switch the system off. We expect it to be an extremely attractive add-on since you could place temporary files or the Windows swap file here. As a matter of fact, this would improve system performance considerably, as the DDR1 memories that need to be installed (up to 1 GB for each of the four sockets) don't cause noticeable access delays. In addition to that, the device is expected to provide throughput over 100 MB/s.

The W421 seems to be a decent compromise between size, weight, cost and performance.
