Compaq unveils new `Vista'

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Compaq is introducing a new "legacy-free" PC, shedding support for older technologies such as the 16-bit ISA bus.

Compaq's new system, to be unveiled in an upcoming New York event, will present a new design and marketing philosophy from the company, sources say.

The PC, which is code-named Vista, will run various versions of Windows, including Windows 2000 when that becomes available. Based on the latest Intel Pentium III chips, it eschews PS/2 ports in favor of USB attachments for peripherals such as keyboards and a mouse.
