COMDEX: Powerware 9330 UPS Adds Redundancy, Redundancy

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Hot swappable components and redundant disk arrays aren't going to do you a heck of a lot of good if you're not prepared for a power outage. Due to this summer's rolling blackouts here in California, you can bet a lot of companies found that out the hard way. A UPS can keep things going at least long enough for you to back everything up and turn off all the machines in the event of an emergency. Just be sure it has the appropriate juice for your particular setup. At Comdex, Invensys Powerware Division is showing off its latest uninterruptible power system (UPS) in its three-phase product family. The Powerware 9330 can now be configured for paralleled solutions using its Powerware Hot Sync technology, which basically uses more than one UPS to create a redundant power system to keep you covered if you get stuck in traffic getting to the office to shut everything down. If one UPS module has to go offline for any reason, another unit assumes the load. By using a peer configuration, as opposed to a "master-slave" configuration, Invensys says that Hot Sync ensures that each module is operating independently and that no added circuitry or components are required to be "switched in" to operate the units in parallel. Powerware Hot Sync will be available for the Powerware 9330 in January 2002.
