COMDEX: Intel's Low-Power Server Processors

by - source: Tom's Hardware

It just wouldn't be Comdex without the announcement of at least a couple of processors. Yesterday, we heard from AMD , so you've got to figure that Intel wants a little bit of attention as well. The company just let us know about a new series of products for low-power, space-saving "ultra dense" blade servers. The products include the Ultra Low Voltage Pentium III processor at 700 MHz, which runs at 1.1 volts and includes 512 kB of on-chip cache memory. Intel says that systems based on the combination of the Ultra Low Voltage 700 MHz P3 and Intel 440GX chipset will support low-cost PC 100 SDRAM. The processor is produced using Intel's 0.13-micron manufacturing process and is dressed in Intel's uFCBGA package. System pricing for the complete combination of products varies by manufacturer and are expected to start shipping in Q4 2001. According to the Inquirer , a gaggle of mobile Pentium III-M chips were also introduced today, originally announced so long ago that I remember going to the event, but can't dig up the news piece I wrote about it. The Inq also has a bundle of pricing info on the chips.
