COMDEX: Appian Rushmore Drives Four Monitors From a Single Slot
Multiple monitor apps are typically limited to disciplines like CAD and other high-end content-creation fields. However, if you've got the cash, I'll bet running a handful of big thin-bezel monitors would be pretty cool for gaming as well. Appian Graphics wants to give you option of hooking up four displays using only one graphics card with its new Rushmore card, based on the ATI RADEON VE graphics accelerator. The card has 64MB of DDR SDRAM and two ATI RADEON VE multi-display graphics processors on board and offers resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 x 32bpp at 60Hz. It also has integrated DVI output and ships with DVI-to-analog adapters and Appian's HydraVision Multiple Monitor Management Software and AppianXtras tool suite. Other goodies include independent ten-bit 300 MHz RAMDACs and display engines and the ability to let you hook up 16 monitors in Windows NT 4.0 if you're inclined to purchase four cards. The Appian Rushmore PCI will be available in January 2002 for a suggested retail price of $599.
