Com. makes true 3D screens

New Zealand's Deep Video Imaging Ltd. says it is delivering that mainstay of science fiction prophesies, true moving 3-D pictures. Deep Video screens are 12bx LCD panels that run on PCs with two 3-D graphics cards supporting Microsoft's Direct3D API. The system uses two screens, one translucent in the front, and the company says images can be moved from back to foreground. The system also works with Macintosh, Unix or other systems that support 3-D and standard analog video (SVGA) output. Current prices are high at $7,500 and the systems will be aimed mostly at the kiosk market, but the company hopes that they will be able to reduce prices to the point that the technology will be used in the PC market.
