Shanghai metro worker fired over kissing video
There are stories you know you’ll follow up on, like THG’s favourite Nobel laureate :
Nobel laureate makes racist remarks, speech cancelled
Nobel laureate suspended from board of trustees
Nobel laureate packs in job all together
Tests show Nobel laureate is of African descent
But there are some you think are just a spit in the bucket story. Never to be heard of again. We thought the case of the Chinese couple taking legal action against a the metro company would be such a story.
A video of the couple kissing and cuddling in Shanghai Metro Station was uploaded to Youtube and other video-sharing sites. Both the man and woman suspected the video was taken by metro employees.
The couple sought legal advice as they felt this was an invasion of their privacy. While we tend to lean toward the fact that they were canoodling in public, we can understand their distress.
The man claimed he even had to quit his job after receiving many a call from friends and relatives.
The noble pair said it wasn’t their own privacy they were concerned about as much as it was the privacy of the other passengers.
Well, all their valiant efforts have paid off, sort of.
The metro company has sacked one of the three employees who allegedly posted the video on YouTube. The other two apparently quit back in September.
The Metro people are also in discussions with the couple regarding compensation.
