Cheap VIA chipset to support Athlon
VIA Technologies Inc. has announced a new KM133 chipset with integrated graphics that will allow PC makers to use Duron chips without paying for graphics cards. The VIA ProSavage KM133, based on the KT133, uses the S3 Savage 4 3D graphics engine with the shared memory architecture used by Intel's 815 line. The KM133 supports all Socket A Athlons and Durons. A cheaper version, the KL133, will lack the on-chip graphics. Some systems using the chipset should be available by Christmas and production will ramp up in the first quarter of next year.
