AseTek: VapoChill For $40 (30 Euros)?

Efficient phase change cooler for only $43 (30 euros)? Sounds almost too good to be true. VapoChill Micro will soon be tested by us.

The Danish cooler specialist Ase Tek, famous for the VapoChill systems based on compressors and WaterChill systems as liquid coolers, presented a product at CeBIT which may take the wind out of the sails of conventional solutions. VapoChill Micro is based on the VapoChill, which retails for several hundred dollars, but it is supposed to be available for much less than $40 (30 euros). With over 130 W of power dissipation capabilities, the device is also said to be able to accommodate the cooling needs of upcoming processor generations. According to André Eriksen, CEO of AseTek, larger designs could also dissipate well over 200 W.

The device utilizes a liquid coolant that is placed in a closed circuit and transformed into a gaseous state by the waste heat of the object being cooled, which is usually a processor. This gas then rises to the upper area of the cooler, which is equipped with cooling fins. The gas then returns to its fluid state and flows back to the evaporator.

So far the installation of the VapoChill Micro is extremely easy, since the cooler can be fitted to all standard bases by means of various retaining clips. The cooling element can be turned by 360° and can thus be aligned according to need. An initial test in a few weeks will show how well the system actually works in practice.
