Vapochill: Stable At 3.9 GHz, Plus Watercooling

by

At the Abit stand, Vapochill presented what they claimed was the fastest PC system in the world. With a clock speed of 4.08 GHz, the small Danish firm strove for a record-breaking system. After our initial inquiries, though, it became clear that Vapochill runs stably only at 3.9 GHz max, and that the higher clock rates only served as part of the show. On another note, the manufacturer now uses a new cooling liquid of the type A404a, which has a lower boiling point, instead of R134a, which they had used up to now. New to the program is a complete solution for watercooling, which attracted our attention with its automatic pump. Also, cooling elements for the graphics chip, Northbridge and CPU (AMD/Intel compatible) are included in the set. There's one disadvantage that the user has to live with, though: the GPU cooler takes up the space of two PCI slots. In the maximum configuration, the kit costs around $180, which is less expensive than the solution from the German company Innovatek.

The truth about the 4 GHz claim: in practice, the Vapochill PC runs stably at a maximum of 3.9 GHz. This was topped by THG already about a half a year ago. Nevertheless, the performance is nothing to sneeze at.
