Sharkoon's "Golf Ball" Inspired Case-Fan
Sharkoon released the latest fan in its Silent Eagle "golf ball" series.
Wednesday Sharkoon revealed the 140-mm Silent Eagle 800 fan, the latest addition to its "Silent Eagle" case fan series. What makes this particular series unique is that the rotor blades have the surface texture of a golf ball. Although the fan certainly won't help with your golf swing, the small, round dimples are said to increase the amount of airflow by reducing drag. [as proven by The Mythbusters--Ed.]
"The Sharkoon Silent Eagle 800 rotates at 800 rpm, moving 93.85 cubic meters of air per hour while at a noise level of 12.4 decibels," the company said in a press release. "The power usage is rated at 0.1 amps and 12 volts. The white propeller and black frame case fan rotates in a rugged metal bearing and weighs 162 grams."
The company said that the fan can be connected to the power supply or motherboard. Also included with the fan is a 3pin/4pin adapter cable, a 3pin connector cable protected by a rubber hose, and a separate cable for monitoring the number of revolutions. To help with the noise reduction, four fan screws and rubber bolts are also supplied.
The Silent Eagle 800 is one of many models offered in the Silent Eagle series. Other than this 140-mm version, consumers can also purchase an illuminated LED model or the SE version which includes a modular cable system.

This must of been inspired by that mythbusters episode where they golfballed a car and proved better airflow over the car. Good if it works, but c'mon, a fan is a fan, my simple £4 120mm 2000rpms do the job nicely.
EDIT: Touché tom's, I didn't read this part
These absolutely rock. So quiet but move a good lot of air. You won't hear these at all over a fan spinning at 2000rpm, let alone much else.
the 120mm fans have been out for ages. the 1000rpm fans are rated at 20db which is silent but it is ridiculously loud either.

And a car is a car but some are better than others.
Sharkoon's fans are very impressive; I have them in both my main rig and HTPC.
I've had a few smaller golfball ones in use for years and I love them. Very very quiet.
Most of the fan noise is made by wind/air resistance, so does that mean less dust will gather on the fan blades aswell, would having the blades and shrouds coated in teflon make them anymore effiecient at cutting through the air and reduce noise and dust buildup.
This fan sound great.

But in relation to their other smaller and faster Sharkoon fans...
a while back I bought a whole set of the 90mm 2,000rpm dimple Sharkoon fans for my Antec P182 case. They certainly shift lots of air well - but the dimples add an irritating (kinda mechanicle) edge to the noise that with other fans is just a soft comfortable whisper.
Once I added 5v resistors on top of my fan controller I reduced the speen down to a very nice quiet 860rpm
Can't really say about the dust on the blades as this case has filters which do make a Huge difference to case dust levels ^^
