Canon shows paper-thin digital display

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Canon has debuted a prototype flexible digital display 0.25mm thick, 2.5 times the thickness of a normal sheet of paper. Toner is sandwiched between two sheets of plastic film and controlled by electrostatic absorption and repulsion. Though relatively low-resolution, the image is non-volatile and can therefore store images without power consumption. The product is scheduled for release late next year and could be used in digital books and similar applications. Canon engineers are working on a color version of the product with 200 dpi resolution, and hope to have it on the market by 2007.
