Can Matrox's TripleHead2Go Span Fun Across Three Displays?

Last month we reviewed Matrox's DualHead2Go, which allows users to transform one graphics output into a double-wide monitor spanning two displays. The technology tells the graphics card that it is actually using a single 2048x768 or 2560x1024 display instead of a pair of 1024x768 or 1280x1024 monitors. This month Matrox has upped the ante further, by introducing the TripleHead2Go. As you can likely guess from the name, it gives users a maximum resolution of 3840x1024 spanning three monitors.

Like its forerunner, the DualHead2Go, the device is 3.6" x 4.2" x 1" tall (9.2 cm x 10.7 cm x 2.5 cm) and weighs less than 0.37 lbs (168 g), making it very compact - it literally can fit in the palm of your hand. It can get rather warm as well; while in operation, we measured temperatures of around 100oF. This does not represent a concern for thermal failure, however, as the maximum threshold for operating ambient temperatures is 130oF or 55oC. The unit's metal case acts as a passive cooling device and stays well within the suggested operating range.
