Buy your own Fighter Jet on eBay - Start your Own Air Farce!
Now you can have your own Air Farce YOUR way. That's right - eBay has an authentic Russian MiG 21 classic Mach 2 jet fighter for sale. Currently listed at $200,200 US (and rising) with approximately two days left in the auction, this baby can outrun most F-16s with a climb rate of Mach 1.8. The price includes a spare engine, rocket pods, missile rails, spare parts, training manuals, radio and avionics, FAA license, tow bar and start cart. Missiles are not included. Oh, darn.
The MiG 21 is in Santa Maria, California. The winning bidder must prepay the delivery fee (for delivery within the US, roughly $10,000 US), and provide their own ground crew to follow the plane on its trip home with nitrogen, oxygen, ladders and start carts. Prior to taking delivery, five hours of local test flight time is required, and supersonic test flights, not usually permitted, can be pre-scheduled at nearby Vandenburg AFB and China Lake Naval Center. The MiG is subject to FAA operational restrictions that apply to "experimental, exhibition" jet war birds. Residents outside the U.S. and EUC must obtain an export license. If you are a resident of one of the countries on the U.S. State Department's current export restriction list (North Korea, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Burma, Vietnam, etc.), don't even bother to bid - The State Department won't grant you an export license to take the plane home.
