Buffalo Technology's WBR2-G54 is the second generation of its flagship 802.11g router and its first product to incorporate its AirStation OneTouch Secure System (AOSS) wireless auto-configuration technology.

Since the WBR2 is essentially the same as the WBR-G54 previous-generation product that it replaces, the feature portion of this review will concentrate primarily on what's different in the WBR2. I'll give the AOSS feature a good going-over, though, and include a full set of wireless performance tests.

Basic Features

The WBR2 is - I think (hope!) - the last Buffalo product to be blessed with its distinctive vertical ovoid cylinder styling. Indicators are still arranged on the front and right side (viewed from front) of the white plastic case, all connectors are on the rear panel and there are still no wall-mounting features provided.

The only indications of the AOSS capability are an AOSS LED on the front panel and and AOSS button on the rear.

The rear panel still has four 10/100 LAN ports, 10/100 WAN port, power connector, Reset-to-Factory-Defaults Init switch, external "MC (custom "Lucent") antenna connector hidden behind a little flip-up cover and the aforementioned AOSS button. All ports are auto MDI / MDI-X and the WAN port can have its speed and mode set via the Admin interface.
