Buena Vista acquires UK game studio Climax racing
Buena Vista Games, the video game division of Disney, today announced that it has purchased the UK development studio Climax Racing. According to Buena Vista, this will be company s first game studio in Europe, and the third in the world.
Climax Racing, which was founded in 2000, is known for its series of racing titles including MotoGP and ATV Offroad Fury, which have appeared on most of the main gaming platforms. Climax Racing is part of the multi-studio firm Climax. Climax will retain its other studios, including its Action Studio and Handheld Studio.
Buena Vista games also owns Salt Lake City, Utah-based Avalanche Software and Vancouver, British Columbia s Propaganda Games. "The acquisition of Climax Racing aligns perfectly with our strategic and geographic goals by allowing us to both reach into new genres and new markets for creative talent," said Graham Hopper, senior vice president and general manager of Buena Vista Games.
The acquisition, terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to close in the early part of next month.
