Broadcom says no 11n silicon this year
During our time with Broadcom at last week’s CES, we got straight from the source that the company is nowhere near ready to release 802.11n silicon .
Jeff Abramowitz - Senior Director of Marketing for Broadcom’s Home and Wireless Networking Business Unit - said the eWeek report that caused all the speculation was based on extrapolation of a comment from an interview with a Broadcom exec who was not closely familiar with the subject. Most subsequent reports then took their cue from eWeek’s story.
The 802.11n - also referred to as the Standard for Enhancements for Higher Throughput - Task Group was formed last July. Its current schedule projects the standard’s release in October 2005 .
EE Times reports that the Task Group is expected to issue a call for proposals for 802.11n at the IEEE 802.11 interim meeting taking place this week in Vancouver, British Columbia.
