Broadcasters form wireless network

by - source: Tom's Hardware

About a dozen major television broadcast groups have formed a national wireless network company to deliver high-speed music, video, games, software and other services directly to PCs.

Called iBlast, the new company has agreements in all of the top 25 media markets with more than 140 local television stations.

Partners include Tribune Co., Gannett Co. Inc., Cox Communications Inc., Post-Newsweek Stations and The New York Times Co.

iBlast plans to begin service in early 2001, when it expects to have agreements with stations covering more than 95 percent of U.S. households.
