Broadband coming to standard phone lines
During an intense period of PC related chip news several weeks ago, an announcement by Legerity Inc., went largely unnoticed. The Advanced Micro Devices spin-off, once the company's communications chip division, says that it has developed a technology that will deliver true broadband over any standard phone line. The device gives lines the ability to carry voice and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) simultaneously. According to the company, the chips will also lower the cost of broadband and accelerate ADSL delivery by eliminating the need for network "splitters."
