Boeing buys Linux, AMD supercomputer
The Boeing Company has bought a 96-processor supercomputer based on the Linux operating system and Advanced Micro Devices processors. It will be used to design the new Delta IV rocket that will launch satellites into orbit. The system is the fourth sold to Boeing by Linux Networx, a company specializing in clustered Linux machines that work collectively on computational problems. It is the first, however, that used Advanced Micro Devices chips.
